Abstract:

The papers of Lawrence Oakley Cheever relate primarily to his collecting interests. The first series contains his correspondence files as well as material he collected about the Prairie Press and illustrator Rockwell Kent. Cheever published a number of articles in a journal titled, The Book Collector's Packet. The second section of his papers consists of research, drafts, and copies of some of those articles.

L.O. Cheever's collection of bookplates (arranged by artist) make up the third grouping, while the final sequence contains the booklets that he had published each Christmas for his friends. Included are drafts, correspondence, and all manner of material relating to their writing, design, and printing. Many of these were the products of the Prairie Press.

Correspondence is found in three of the four series. There are letters from: Carroll Coleman, Rockwell Kent, Raymond Lufkin, Dale Nichols, George Perrottet, Will Ransom, Will Simmons, Vincent Starrett, and Edward A. Wilson.
