Abstract:

The papers consist of family correspondence, papers, and research material assembled for her books "One American family: Some Maury memories, legends, and records" and "Some distaff forbears: Perkins, Henderson, Watson, Price, Norris, Opie, Kelly."

The majority of the original letters are written to Anne "Nannie" Henderson Perkins Maury, of Butte, Montana, from family in Charlottesville, Va. In addition to news of family, friends and local events, items of interest include life of a missionary doctor's wife in Tsiang Kiang, China, 1894, Charles A. Smith's lunch with Kaiser Wilhelm, 1910, and a Michigan fishing trip, 1899.

Additional original material includes travel accounts to Butte, Montana, 1910, and New York, 1891; a commonplace book, 1894, of Anne Henderson Perkins Maury together with her diaries, 1941-1954; the diary of Egbert Reed Watson, 1875-1885; and miscellaneous poems, recipes, and gift lists.

Research materials include correspondence of Mrs. Skeels; copies of correspondence and other papers pertaining to the Maury family, particularly to James Maury, Matthew Fontaine Maury and Dabney Herndon Maury; and a commonplace book, 1880-1885, of Lydia Ann "Nannie" Jessie Maury.

Also a diary, 1934-1955, of family events; genealogical charts; and material re the Watson and Perkins family, particularly Charlottesville lawyer George Perkins; and a printed history of the Piedmont Female Institute Alumnae Association.
