Abstract:

The collection includes a letter, 1939 Dec 29, from Franklin D. Roosevelt, The White House, to Short discussing Short's "suggestion of safeguarding and promoting democratic ideals" by organizing local clubs to combat "the spread of anti-democratic propaganda." Roosevelt expresses approval and stresses that such organizations should have no connection with the government.

In related letters to Short, 1956, President Ramon Magsaysay of the Philippines and Lim Yew Hock, Chief Minister of Singapore discuss the work of the World University Service. In a letter, 1960 June 15, Edgar Whitehead, Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia praises Short's work with the Commonwealth Society for the Deaf.

Also included is a pamphlet describing Short's career.
