Abstract:

The papers contain 5 letters chiefly about Johnston's writing: in a letter to Henry Mills Alden, editor of "Harper's monthly," Johnston suggests changing the name of one of his characters and mentions working on a series of lectures on early English literature; in two letters to Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen, he discusses republishing his "Dukesboro tales" and the plans of D. Appleton and Co. to reprint six of the stories in book form.

There is also a photograph of Johnston inscribed by him to Edward Windsor Kemble.

The correspondents include Henry Mills Alden, Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen, S. E. Jones, and Henry Pont [?].
