Abstract:

The records of the Pennyroyal Press include the business, legal and production papers for books designed by Barry Moser that were printed at the Hampshire Typothetae. They include: Frankenstein, Alice in wonderland, Through the looking glass, The Wizard of Oz, Huckleberry Finn, Richard Yarde's Savoy, Moby Dick and Dante, Anne Frank, Artic whaling, Red badge of courage and Scarlet letter. There are also general business, financial and legal papers of the Press. The Barry Moser papers include correspondence and general personal papers, sketches, news clippings, contracts, commissions, business papers and photographs. In the Hampshire Typothetae records there are examples of the presswork of Harold P. McGrath of an ephemeral nature including the job tickets (called job bags by McGrath), as well as correspondence and business and financial papers. The are 22 framed posters, broadsides and page spreads from books, 2 oil paintings and numerous pieces of ephemera. Also included are papers related to Pioneer Publishing (1984) that was an attempt to raise money for further printing, and papers related to Jeffrey P. Dwyer's various bookstores: Hadley Bookshop (1972); Dwyer Bookshop (1972-1974) located in Amherst, Mass. and J.P. Dwyer Bookseller, 1974-ca. 1985 that operated in Northampton, Mass.
