Hieronymus Rodler; Johann, Prince Count Palatine; Monogrammist HH.
|Notes:||Grässe, V, 216. Schoeller: Kunst im deutschen Buchdruck, 255. See: Fairfax Murray 367. Bonneman: Presse des Hieronymus Rodler in Simmern, p. 24-25, 45-46.
Last leaf (blank) wanting.
Although usually attributed to Rodler, who published the first edition at Simmern in 1531, this work may have been written and illustrated by his patron, Johann II of Pfalz-Simmern.--cf. pref. and Bonnemann.
Illustrations: numerous woodcuts, many full-page, some printed in red and black, comprising illustrations and diagrams. Although unsigned, these are attributed to the Master H H who illustrated other Simmern imprints. Bonnemann suggests that he was Hans von Hunsrück, i.e. Johann van Pfalz-Simmer, Rodler's patron.
Binding, 20th century, of half green morocco with vellum sides.
