Special Collections copy is quarter bound in black cloth; spine is leather with decorative gilt tulling; illegible inscriptions from previous owner on inside of front and back covers; pages are annotated by previous owner in pencil.
An abridged edition of "Peter Parley's universal history on the basis of geography," which was published in 2 v. in 1837, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne with the aid of his sister Elizabeth. Cf. Woodberry's Nathaniel Hawthorne, p. 60.
