L. J. Smith will not be allowed to write anymore Vampire Diaries. The series was taken from her and given to a ghostwriter. She has fought long and hard to prevent/reverse this decision, but Alloy (the book packaging company) would not budge. This was allowed to happen because of a "work for hire" clause in the original contract that she signed back in the '90s when she didn't fully understand what it meant. Phantom was written by L. J. Smith, but the publishers told the ghostwriter to rewrite it. However, it will still say "Created by L. J. Smith." I won't be buying it because a) I don't think it will be any good and b) I think it was an underhanded move by Alloy to do what they did. Of course, everyone is free to decide for themselves. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew the facts.
