Abstract:

Album of carte-de-visite photographs of people connected with the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. It includes portraits of Lincoln; his assassin John Wilkes Booth; Booth's co-conspirators David Herold, Samuel Arnold, George Atzerodt, Michael O'Laughlin, Lewis Thornton Powell (a.k.a. Lewis Payne), and Edward Spangler; and Union army sergeant Boston Corbett, who killed Booth on April 26, 1865. Several of the portraits are copies of heavily retouched photographs.

The album also contains five images of the execution by hanging of Herold, Atzerodt, Payne, and Mary Surrat, another conspirator, on July 7, 1865.
