Photographs are housed in mylar sleeves within 2 loose-leaf binders.
The notebooks are in the collection of the Watts Gallery, Compton, Surrey, England. They were photographed in 1969 as part of the Photographic Survey project of the Witt Library, Courtauld Institute, London. Photographic Survey No: 071 873 2763.
Catalog entries for paintings are listed alphabetically by title. Each page of the notebook contains three entries. Most entries include a photograph of the work, title, size (in inches), owner, date, exhibitions, and notes. Thumbnail photographs which accompany most of the entries, vary in size, but the majority are appoximately 4 x 3 cm. The first notebook contains portraits painted by Watts, while the second contains his other paintings including history, allegory and landscape paintings. The notebooks were handwritten in ink by Mary Watts, the thumbnail photographs are adhered to the pages.
Each photographic print is stamped on verso: Courtauld Institute of Art; Negative No._____; Not to be reproduced without permission.
V. 1 includes a letter dated Aug. 14, 1993 from Jane Cunningham, Librarian of the Photographic Survey, Courtauld Institute to Helene Roberts, Curator of Visual Collections, Fine Arts Library, Harvard University, explaining that blank pages in the notebook were not photographed, but that three paintings were inadvertently omitted.
