Abstract:

Six of the images in this group were made by Choumoff in 1917, the year of Rodin's death. They include: three of Rodin on the day of his wedding to Rose Beuret, 29 January 1917 (with Rose Beuret; with Léonce Bénédite, Clementel, and Weiler; and a view taken during the wedding ceremony); two images of Rodin in his studio at Meudon (alone; with Bénédite and his cousin Louise Coltat); and a photograph taken shortly before his death showing Rodin standing before his Gates of Hell with his founder, Eugène Rudier, Bénédite, and a group of foundry workers. The seventh image, a gum bichromate portrait of Rodin, was made in 1903-04 by the photographers Stephen Haweis and Henry Coles.
