This case study shows that strategic planning can be an adequate and accessible tool for a small company and provides short and long-term benefits which are necessary to improve the company' s capabilities for survival. In order to complete this research, it was necessary to create solutions to overcome the difficulties found. Similar difficulties were related in past studies about the same subject. Typical problems include: management by intuition, lack of knowledge of management techniques and overloading of the entrepreneur, caused by his focus on routine operational activities. These factors result in a lack of time to learn the management techniques, which could help the company to improve and get better results. The lack of learning usually leads to less improvement and less gains. This situation is a vicious cycle and contributes to the large mortality of small business in Brazil. In the researched company, this cycle is broken through the implementation of the strategic planning according to Certo and Peter (1993) methodology, while also using a practical model here named "Pondered Factors System (PFS)". This system' s main objective was to solve the basic issue of the entrepreneur' s time limitations, simplifying the analysis of each topic' s step by converting the open issues discussion into multiple-choice factors. The proposed model proved to be of easy understanding and management, requiring a short time commitment nom the entrepreneur. The implementation of some actions has already produced results, which evidences the good assimilation and future benefits for the company to be achieved nom the acquisition of knowledge and nom the entrepreneur' s new mindset.
