Abstract:

Quincy Troupe reads his poem The view from Skates in Berkeley and plays two recordings of himself reading the poem with musical accompaniment first by jazz trombone player George Lewis and then by classical pianist Donal Fox, who accompanies the poem by playing music by Domenico Scarlatti. Troupe talks about how he adapted the poem to each situation, improvising as needed to make it work. He describes how he collaborates with video artists as well as musicians and answers questions from the audience.
