Abstract:

Two albums containing political caricature sketches by John Doyle (117), Henry Heath (9), George Scharf (1), George Rowe (1), John Leech (1) and one unidentified. Doyle's prints are usually signed with his pseudonym H.B. He specialized in depicting the likeness of his subjects in the tradition of a portrait painter, for which he was trained. Most of the plates are numbered, and printed and published by Thomas McLean, London. There is a self-portrait in the album "H.B., " fourth print from the end. The Doyle numbered prints are primarily between #318-819 ("H.B." album) and #844-916 ("Caricatures").
