Very Good

I found this to be an atmospheric and cleverly plotted tale with persuasive characters, plenty of style and many a wry reflection on the human condition. Ruth Rendell's mastery of the thriller genre in my eyes is unsurpassed as she has a mesmerizing capacity to shock, chill and disturb - right up to the conclusion, which was as unexpected as it was inevitable.
