Abstract:

The homiletical and theological challenge of this thesis project is to transform core beliefs of a demoralized people through the transforming Word of God as that Word is experienced in preaching. Through preaching that is trichotomous (pastoral, priestly and prophetic: the three dimensions of God), the parishioner will experience God's love and protective care, the believer will experience God's interceding through forgiveness and instruction through Jesus Christ; and the parishioner will experience hope for the present and the future. The preaching should be holistic in its application. Thus, the hermeneutical and exegetical principles allows the preaching to be applicable to every genre of life to assist a broken, wounded and disenfranchised people in healing and wholeness; so that they can develop and participate in holistic ministries to serve the church and the community at large.
