Abstract:

This paper reviews the key legislative approaches to prostitution in Australia, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, England and the United States. In particular, it examines the specific laws and regulations these countries and states have instituted, and how they have fared in meeting their objectives. Each of the countries and states examined relies on a variation of one of the following approaches to prostitution: prohibitionism; decriminalization; legalization; abolitionism; neo-abolitionism.
