Decoration: Ornate title cartouche (bottom left corner) featuring male rural characters and domestic animals, the arms of Scotland (top right corner), elaborated compass rose with direction lines radiating, cherubs playing with a surveyor's chain (above scale cartouche), shaded and coloured coasts (outwards), coloured boundaries and some flourished script.
This is the map by Timothy Pont, with a new title, issued in the 1630 edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas.
On verso, Latin text.
Map originally in Ioannis Ianssonii Novus atlas, sive theatrum orbis terrarum in quo magna Britannia ... Tomus quartus, published in Amsterdam by Ioannem Ianssonium, 1646.
