Abstract:

Seeks increased understanding of the internal structure of psychological science and its place in the matrix of scientific activity. The text explores the structure, mutual interrelations, and associations with other sciences of the main empirical areas in which psychological research proceeds. A large number of distinguished investigators in related biological and social sciences were invited to write papers which examine the organization of empirical knowledge within subareas of these disciplines and chart their cross-connections. Psychologist contributors were asked to consider the relations between their own fields of special competence and the rest of psychology and, if they wished, to inquire also into relations with relevant segments of other sciences. Social and biological scientists were asked to examine the relations between their own fields and psychology. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2004 APA, all rights reserved).
