Abstract:

Ma Barker and other public enemies: In 1930s America, poverty, Prohibition, corruption and a mentality of opportunistic individualism came together in an explosion of widespread criminal violence. It was the era of gangs and gunslingers, of John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, Kelly "machine-gun", and "Ma" Barker's criminal family. Photos, film footage, eyewitness interviews and reenactments of kidnappings and gun battles retrace the life the time of Ma Barker and her sons. This fast-paced tale of personal ambition, rebellion against authority and anti-hero worship is taken to a tragic extreme of anarchic violence.

John Duffy: As London police race against time to stop the perpetrator of a series of rapes and brutal murders in the capital city, two investigations are merged into one. The investigators are hampered by the murderer's careful efforts to erase evidence from each crime scene. What of forensic and other evidence does exist is carefully scrutinized. FBI technique called psychological profiling is used to build an accurate model of the killer's motives and lifestyle. This documentary examines a vicious case and the multiple investigative techniques, through video footage of the crime scenes, searches for victims, a behind the scenes analysis of this investigation and interviews with crime experts.
