Resumen:

As a classical revenge story it recalls the fatalistic cinema of Fritz Lang (Rancho Notorious, The Big Heat). Alternatively as a story of guilt and redemption it is more in line with Hitchcock's morally ambiguous "transference of guilt" dramas such as I Confess. Finally the cool deliberation in portrayal of the monstrous Paul and the encouragement of our complicity with the tragically flawed Charles is Lang and Hitchcock plus Chabrol.
