Abstract:
This paper briefly introduces a prototype decision-support system, Question Master, aimed at automating the more routine, factual reference questions encountered in libraries. By presenting a series of Web pages, Question Master guides librarians through a set of clarifying questions before recommending an appropriate electronic or relevant print resource from WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog). The ultimate goal is to improve the accuracy of reference transactions and, as a result, increase end-user satisfaction.
