Abstract:

Quilt is made of white cotton, red silk, and embroidery floss in red, white and blue. The center of the quilt has a silk U.S. flag with the words "G.O.P. / Layton / Utah / 1920," embroidered below, and 38 embroidered signatures radiating outward in a circle around the flag. The back is pieced white cotton. The binding is applied red silk. The embroidery provides the quilting that holds the layers of the quilt together. Red floss is used for the rays, and blue and white floss for the signatures. The signatures include women of the Elliot, Simmons, Dunn, Kirkham, Stevenson, Love, King, Whitesides, Hill, Layton, Tanner, Wiggill, Rupper, Hudson, Walker, Beesley, Judsen, Stevemon, Corlridge, Cowley, Saners, Landie, Harris, and Adams families, members of the Women's Republican Club of Layton, Utah.
