Abstract:

Young Harry Miles clashes with Michael Chadwick, son of a wealthy land owner, and sows the seeds of a lifetime's conflict. Waiting for his apprenticeship, Harry takes a temporary job at William Hardcastle's warehouse and falls in love with his daughter. Several years later, the couple meet again and declare their love. William consents to their marriage but his wife cannot forgive Harry's working class origins. The 1914-18 war breaks out and Harry finds himself under Chadwick's command.
