"This cédula ... is addressed to the officials of the royal storehouses in the Archbishopric of Seville and the Bishopric of Cadiz, informing them that, as a previous order dated 20 May 1493 ... to hand over the wheat, necessary for the manufacture of biscuits for the fleet, from the harvest of the previous year, had not been carried out, they were instructed to borrow five hundred measures for the manufacture of biscuits from any persons able to supply it ... The two cédulas [both in the Casa del Libro] ... are believed to be the earliest documents in the Americas in reference to Christopher Columbus' second voyage of discovery"--Introductory note.
