|Notes:||First edition of a work which has become a classic, for Bonnet was the first to demonstrate a process of breathing in plants.
Bonnet's plates, brilliantly engraved, depict plants and experiments which prove conclusively the consummation of oxygen. He also expressed the view that plants are endowed with powers of sensation and discernment, an idea which has later been taken up again by Darwin and others.
