Abstract:

Records of the Prince Society of Boston, Mass. from its founding in 1858 (as the Prince Society for Mutual Publication), its incorporation in 1874, through its dissolution in 1944. The records of the Society, whose purpose was the printing and editing of manuscripts, tracts, and volumes in American history, contain financial accounts, minutes, membership lists, and correspondence on such topics as membership, financial status, future publications, and their distribution. Five recordbooks contain: general records (including the constitution, members, minutes, and financial accounts, 1858-75); treasurers' accounts (1873-1944); printing estimates (1873-77); council meeting minutes (1874-1913); and annual meeting minutes (1874-1937). Officers of the organization represented heavily in the collection include Stephen W. Phillips, John W. Farwell, Charles E. Goodspeed, and George W. Wolkins.
