The correspondence is predominately from the administrations of Merrill and Sax, and pertains to plant collecting, exchanges of specimens, identifications, botanical expeditions (especially to China), landscape gardening, and internal matters, such as fundraising and personnel. Correspondents include botanists and plant collectors, horticulturists, other faculty and offices at Harvard, such as Harvard Forest, and universities, botanical gardens, professional societies, and other organizations.
