Includes general correspondence, 1778-1938; reports to the Corporation; and other correspondence about real estate matters, Harvard Endowment Fund, and other subjects: Routine Office files pertain to gifts, accounts, contracts, investments, leases, rental property and also includes Harvard-Yenching Institute financial records, and records relating to Gordon McKay and the McKay estate. Records which relate to specific subjects include: Harvard Class Subscription Fund (1869-1879), war activities fund (1917-1918) and subscription after the Boston fire of 1872. Also correspondence and financial records of John Hancock during his tenure as treasurer; journal and ledger accounts, 1806-1830, for the Massachusetts Professorship of Natural History; and trustees records of the Museum of Comparative Zoology.
