Résumé :
Many domestic issues give Americans cause for concern, but the overriding issue is how the United States can maintain its freedom, how it can not only survive, but prevail. The U.S. must build a stronger country at home in order to help the cause of freedom abroad. The 1960s are going to be the most difficult and dangerous time in the life of the country; in the next 10 years, the people of Latin America, Africa, and Asia will begin to judge whether they should follow the road of freedom or move in the direction of the Communists. That judgment can be affected by the kind of society built in the United States. The slogan of the present Republican leadership has been "You never had it so good"; the country's slogan should be "We must do better, we must do better, we must do better." Contrary to Nixon's claim, Kennedy is not downgrading the United States. Like Americans in 1936, Americans today have a rendezvous with destiny: that destiny is to determine whether freedom can survive throughout the world.
