The story begins in 1647 when Rembrandt is at the height of his career and followed a fictional account of one painting to the present when art dealer Tom Ardens buys it at a tag sale. He thinks it's a Rembrandt and wants to sell it as soon as possible to solve his financial problems. During the week of the authentication process, the infamous German criminal Fritz Schroller thwarts his plan. Tom gets help from ex-detective Marco Vincente to battle Schroller while the origin of the painting is questioned and Tom's windfall is jeopardized.
