Abstract:

Church leadership has the responsibility to provide resources, guidance and to create the proper climate to assist in the formation of the human spirit with the Holy Spirit. Within Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) this means that most members should become more focused and disciplined in their practice of the classic spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible reading, solitude, silence, listening and meditation. As the people begin their inward journey of spirituality through a series of eight small group spiritual formation meetings, coupled with a series of six action-reflection Bible studies for the session, the congregation will become renewed, revitalized, and less leader dependent. The result will be a shared vision for this community of believers as they prepare for the third millenium.
