In Emigrazione e letteratura: il caso italoaustraliano, Gaetano Rando brings together, reorders, updates and expands previously published material (articles published over several years, chiefly m Altreztalle) on most aspects of Italo-Australian literary and artistic production from the beginning of colonisation to the present day. In its present form, Rando's book constitutes one of the most valuable published resources on Italo-Australian literary production: it is both an informative account accessible to the general reader interested in the migrant experience and an invaluable tool for specialists in the field, in spite of some shortcomings in its presentation. The bibliography is one of the most comprehensive available, covering the widest possible range of primary sources. Given that the stated objective is to examine "la produzione di memorie, narrativa, poesia e testi teatrali, cinematografici e televisivi dalla fine degli anni '40 in poi mettendola in rapporto all'esperienza emigratoria degli Italiani [sic] d'Australia" (26), the fairly lengthy introduction on Australian literature seems somewhat tangential, even if it is informative and helps place the work in its non-mainstream context.
