Abstract:

The papers of Richard P. McCormick document the career of a prolific scholar, educator, and college administrator. The papers consist of materials accrued during his life as a historian of the United States, New Jersey, and Rutgers University, and his academic and administrative career at Rutgers University. The collection dates from 1929 to 2003, with the bulk of the material from the period 1940-1997. and include correspondence, manuscripts of his numerous publications, speeches, calendars, newspaper clippings and notebooks. The New Jersey historical organizations files include papers from his affiliation with the New Jersey Historical Commission, the New Jersey Historical Society, the New Jersey Tercentenary Commission, the Proprietary House Association, and the the State Historical Records Advisory Board.

The Rutgers University files include college correspondence as well as correspondence concerning Academic Reorganization of the University,(1979-1980), the Joint Commission of University Governance (1977-1981), the Educational Opportunity Fund, (including the Course of Study Committee, the Select Committee, the Special Committee and the Special Programs Committee), Federated College Plans I & II (1963-1974) and Rutgers publications.
