The collection consists of individual and group portraits and candid shots of Parrish, his friends and professional colleagues, and school children; views of organizational conferences and conventions; a group of labor pickets; views of classroom activities; and photographic reproductions of architectural drawings and models. The collection has no depictions of Parrish's personal life.
The collection includes studio portraits of Parrish (ca. 1960s to 1973); a group portrait of Parrish with his students from Public School 70, Bronx, New York (1964); a view of Parrish with a group of delegates attending a convention of the American Federation of Teachers (ca. 1950s); Parrish addressing a meeting of the Vulcan Society, the New York City black firefighters fraternal organization (1963); snapshot views of Parrish, political official Odell Clark, and labor leaders Cleveland Robinson, L. Joseph Overton and A. Philip Randolph at an unidentified meeting (1960); portraits and views from the founding convention of the Negro American Labor Council in Detroit, Michigan, attended by Parrish, Randolph, activist Dorothy Height and labor leader Walter Reuther, among others (1960); candid shots and views of children attending the Freedom School at Hattiesburg, Mississippi (1964); contact sheet views of the fifth N.A.L.C. convention at the Westchester Town House, Yonkers, New York (1965); and a view of American Federation of Teachers President Charles Cogen and Vice Presidents Roy Mort, Richard Parrish and Rose Claffey joining striking teachers on a picket line at St. John's University, New York (1966).
