Abstract:

Hashmat Ullah, a sincere, god-fearing Muslim motor mechanic, has been entrusted with repairs to an old Ford V8 engine, not knowing the historical significance that it once carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi which were immersed in the Sangam. He is the general secretary of his neighbourhood mosque committee and well liked, but comes into conflict with his community after a bomb blast, wrongful arrests of Muslim youths and a call for a strike. Will he support the protest and abandon the engine repair or go against the wishes of his community?
