Abstract:

Collection consists of material accumulated by Rodney Birch which documents the life and career of his father, the illustrator Reginald Bathurst Birch. It is comprised of one student drawing (circa 1877), six original graphite and ink sketches, photographs, parts of book dust jackets, ephemera, newspapers clippings, and six watercolor valentines that the artist composed for his wife Gertrude. Photographs include formal portraits of Reginald and Rodney Birch, and candid images of the men with Gertrude and various friends; a separate set of 8-by-10 inch photographs documents the interior of an unidentified home, circa 1920.
