Abstract:

Mercedes Roffé reads a poem from Encuentros casuales by Mexican poet Isabel Fraire. Roffé interviews Fraire. Fraire began her career as a writer in the late 1950s as a collaborator for the literary magazine Catarsis. She later joined the editors at the Revista Mexicana de Literatura. Since 1960, she has been publishing poetry and critiques in various magazines and through other mediums in Mexico and the United States. Fraire talks about the circumstances in which she left Mexico for France in 1973. She talks about the great opportunity she had as a writer upon her return to Mexico in 1976, until her departure to London in 1981. Fraire talks about her appreciation for her native tongue she didn't discover until she was in Europe. She accredits her dad for her literary knowledge and lists some of her early favorite authors. She also talks about her writing approach and of her writing habits. Fraire recites her own work from Encuentros casuales. Works she has published include Solo esta luz (1969) and Poemas en el regazo de la muerte (1978). Fraire talks about the publishing of these works. Esteban Peicovich interviews writer Liliana Lukin. Lukin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1951. She has come in from Spain for the interview. She talks about the blackout that occurred less that a week earlier and the events that followed. She and Peicovich discuss the situations which people were confronted with and how they faced them. Lukin talks about some her experiences in Spain, where she was staying with friends. She explains her fascination with the differences in the use of the Spanish language in Spain and Argentina. Lukin also talks about her writing approach. Works she has published include Abra cadabra (1978), Malas artes (1981), Descomposicion (1986), Cortar por lo sano (1987), Carne de tesoro (1990), Cartas (1992), Construccion comparativa (1997), and her latest work Las preguntas. Further mentioned is Las preguntas, in which Peicovich reads a review by Gonzalo Rojas of and Cartas, which Lukin briefly explains the context of.
