Abstract:

The identity and purpose of the Presbytery has changed over the years from an administrative functionary, to a program resource center and now to a visionary leadership that guides its churches in their mission and ministry. As churches in these presbyteries struggle for their own survival, they are looking to outside guidance and consultation to assist them in the development of their own mission and ministry. The Presbytery leadership must set a climate of risk taking and learning where they model the process of transformation. The Presbytery must also develop a competent and responsive approach to congregations that seek to enter into a process of transformation. A consultation team could work with self identifying redevelopment congregations over a period of time to assess their present situation, determine their vision for the future and gather the resources necessary to achieve that goal. This thesis plans to develop that structure within the Presbytery, recruit and train a team of redevelopment consultants to work with self identieing redevelopment congregations.
