Diocletian (Caius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus) succeeded Numerian on 20 Nov. 284 C.E. ; Abdicated on 01 May 305 C.E. The Diocletian monetary reform included the regular use of mint-marks ; the mint at Heraclea was opened under Diocletian and remained active until the reign of Leo I (457-474 C.E.).

Reverse legend depicts allegorical figure of Genius (Genius, Spirit) holding patera (libation bowl) and cornucopiae with inscription of "GENIO POPVLI ROMANI." Mint-mark of "HT"(Heraclea) located at bottom of reverse.
Heraclea (now Erekli, Turkey) was a town in Bythinia, a district in Asia Minor on the S. coast of the Black Sea.
