Artists' book by Karol Shewmaker & Brandon Graham. ROOM, a combination FLAT Production and JAB Book was conceived by Karol Shewmaker, who was soon joined by Brandon Graham in carrying on the project. A group of writers and artists was invited to spend the afternoon and early evening at a rented room of the O-MI motel --a down-at-the-heels motel in Chicago -- after which they would respond with work inspired by that visit. From JAB 33.
"The O-MI Motel is a one-star motor court that, at the time of this publication, was still standing on North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, IL. The images in this publication were gathered from the participants who ventured to room #7 at the motel. The text pieces were generated by the writers and artists who were inspired by this particular space."--Colophon.
The book was included in the Journal of Artists' Books no 33.
"Some of the good life" is in an envelope affixed to one of the pages.

Abstract:

This is a first of its kind JAB (The Journal of Artists' Books) production -- a full-fledged artists' book under the JAB banner -- and will be initially distributed to JAB subscribers as a special insert with JAB 33. 8.5 x 11"; 36 pages. Offset printed by Brad Freeman. Duotone. Saddle-stitched binding. Brandon Graham: "The concept is that a viewer/reader will have a visceral understanding of the ROOM, as well as that eerie realization of motel-visits; that many lives have passed through that same space. This is achieved cumulatively in a multi-faceted, cubist kind of way all while existing in that space I enjoy so much: the intersection of Artist Book and Fiction." Brandon Graham, colophon: "The O-Mi Motel is a one star motor court that, at the time of this publication, was still standing on North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, Il. The images in this publication were gathered from the participants who ventured to room #7 at the motel. The text pieces were generated by the writers & artists who were inspired by this particular space."
