Abstract:

[1] Toward the end of the World War II, the United States becomes friendly with the Ho Chi Minh revolutionary movement while it was opposed by the French and British, effectively dividing the country and laying the grounds for a new war -- [2] The French with U.S. aid tried from 1946-1954 to suppress the Vietminh guerillas of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam to retain control of their colony in southeast Asia. The battle of Dien Bien Phu proved to be the crucial battle which led to the French abandoning their claim to Vietnam.
