The subjects of the letters are varied and include personal engagements, atelier visits, the purchase by Bonheur of drawings by Alfred Dedreux and Jules Dupre (Tedesco, 1888-1889), work on a painting for "the Empress" (Mme. Fabien, 1864), problems with a horse harness, the renting of a donkey and a cart (Mme. Sigura, n.d.), an exhibition for Petit, dues for the "Societe de l'Enseignement Professionel des Femmes," financial and practical matters and work in progress. In chronological order.

The sketchbook contains studies of plants, peasants, farm tools, decorative objects, landscapes and human figures and is extensively annotated.
