Abstract:
"Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was the most celebrated Marschallin since Lotte Lehmann; Otto Edelmann recalled the great days of Emanuel List and Richard Mayr; Sena Jurinac, perhaps a shade too plump for a dramatically convincing Octavian, nevertheless sang, moved and acted well; and Annaliese Rothenberger was absolutely divine as Sophie. The filmed production is lavish and colorful. This was the definitive performance of its time." (The New York Times).
