Collation: Fragment cut from the upper left-hand corner of a document. Written in brown ink in an English charter hand.
Decoration: Very large initial 'R', c.80 x 60 mm, illuminated in blue and gold, with leaf and bud design in brown and green extending along inner and head margins. Decorated letters penworked in red and brown ink above first line of text.
Provenance: Bought by E.C. Simpson from A.G. Thomas, catalogue 1 (1957), no.21. The fragment survived as a wrapper, and is inscribed '1594, Pedigree of the Jennings' and '(no.3, Jennings Papers)'; remained in Simpson family following Simpson's death; sold at Dunbar Sloane Wellington auction 22 April 2009, lot 150, purchased by the Alexander Turnbull Library.
