Abstract:
Governor of Ohio, U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Correspondence and papers chiefly from Chase's governorship, including letters of recommendation, petitions for patronage and pardons, resignations, official reports, correspondence relating to the Peyton Polly slave case and other Negro problems, and 18 personal letters (1825-30) from Chase to Thomas Sparhawk.
