This book, "Sasvata Pipasa" most likely represents Rampada Mukhopadhyay at his very literary best. The novel set in the backdrop of Bengal in the 1940's shows the very essence of human desire through a kaleidoscopic presentation of characters, their interpersonal interaction in the milieu of Bengali middle class values, desires and systems.
The book was highly acclaimed by both the readers and critics for its fluid story telling quality with a griping plot without being sensational yet riveting. It's deep introspection of human angle and the unfurling texture of desires which are of eternal essence makes the characters to come very lively. It makes one to feel as though it's a story from the every day happening.
Attempts were made to transfer this outstanding works into celluloid medium but the author himself was not sure that the deep introspective context can successfully be narrated in the cinematic media. It still remains a wide read novel with the old genre of readers who remembers this unassuming author to be one of the finest of its generation who was not possibly given his due.
