Abstract:

Clipped articles and photos in Volumes 1 and 2 span from 1958 to 1959 are mostly from South African newspapers including the Johannesburg Star and the Rand Daily Mail. The articles largely deal with apartheid and, particularly with the famous 1958 "Treason Trial" in Pretoria that Ewrin Griswold observed, in which members of various (anti-apartheid) African Congresses were charged with intent to overthrow the government and establish communism.

Volume 3 of the scrapbooks contains articles published in 1963 by many North American newspapers. They include annoucements of lectures by Griswold or other events that featured him, but the bulk deal with a 1962 Supreme Court decision banning prayer in public schools and Griswold's outspoken opposition to the decision.
