Abstract:

Prof. Dale J. Van Harlingen, Dept. of Physics and Materials Research Laboratory, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign reviews the phase-sensitive SQUID interferometer experiments that established the d-wave symmetry in the cuprates, and describes how this technique is being extended to study other exotic superconductors. In particular, he presents a direct experimental test for complex order parameter symmetry of interfaces and near magnetic impurities in grain boundary Josephson junctions.
