Abstract:

A key figure in the political struggle that saw the Dominion of Newfoundland absorbed into Canada in 1949 has died. His personal papers may hold the key to the many mysteries surrounding the "Confederation Debate". As Frieda goes through the papers she finds the stakes are much higher than realized. She wonders if she has the nerve to challenge the faceless men that keep such secrets. Frieda's father was involved but refuses to help. A colleague seems to be hatching schemes of his own. Even the restless phantoms of an untold history are stirred by Frieda's quest. But, in the end, if the truth will out, Frieda must act alone.
